FIRST SECTION – September 16th – 17th

Category Entry requirements

Premio Soloists no age limit

1st Round (September 16th) – Entrants must perform a programme of their choice lasting a maximum of 20 minutes, including one (1) composition for harpsichord or organ by Johann Sebastian Bach. 

The programmes should demonstrate as much as possible the diversity of the original repertoire for accordion, drawing from the repertoire of the various national “schools”; at the same time, they should include pieces that are different in character, era, taste and style.

A maximum of eight (8) entrants will be chosen to go into the second round.

2nd Round (September 17th) – Entrants who make it to this round must perform a programme of their choice (different from their first round programme) lasting a maximum of 20 minutes. A new performance order will be decided upon by ballot and will be the same for the third round. A maximum of three (3) entrants will be chosen to go into the third round.

3rd Round (September 17th) – Entrants in this round must perform with the String Orchestra in the Astra Theatre in the afternoon, playing the mandatory piece composed by Angelo Biancamano that can be downloaded (download the score in PDF, download mp3 only orchestra, download mp3 accordion and orchestra)

B Classical Soloists up to 15 years of age (born from 2002 onwards) Free choice programme with a maximum lenght of 12 minutes. Entrants cannot present programmes totally composed of transcriptions. [+INFO] Subscription
C Classical Soloists up to 18 years of age (born from 1999 onwards) Free choice programme with a maximum lenght of 15 minutes. Entrants cannot present programmes totally composed of transcriptions. [+INFO] Subscription
D Classical Soloists with no age limit Free choice programme with a maximum lenght of 18 minutes, including a “Sonata” by Domenico Scarlatti. Entrants cannot present programmes totally composed of transcriptions. [+INFO] Subscription
E Chamber music Chamber music ensembles made up only of accordions – no age limit (from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 12 participants) Entrants must present a programme of their choice with a maximum length of 20 minutes.

SECOND SECTION – OTHER MUSIC – September 15th
“Musica Leggera”, Entertainment, Jazz

Varieté H Soloists up to 18 years of age (born from 1999 onwards) Entrants must perform a programme of their choice with a maximum length of 15 minutes (pieces from the following repertoires are accepted: varieté, jazz, blues, pop, South American, in published or unpublished  arrangements).

Varieté I Soloists no age limit Entrants must present a programme of their choice with a maximum length of 18 minutes (pieces from the following repertoires are accepted: varieté, jazz, blues, pop, South American, in published or unpublished  arrangements).  [+INFO] Subscription
Varieté J  Soloists or groups  – no age limit  Admission to this category is open to soloists or groups of up to 8 participants in which the accordion has the main role. Groups can be composed completely of accordions, or of an accordion and other instruments. The use of acoustic, digital, electronic, chromatic and diatonic accordions is allowed.Entrants must perform a programme of their choice with a maximum length of 18 minutes including at least one “standard” from the “Real Book”.  The jury – made up of experts, critics and jazz musicians – will evaluate personal style, improvisational and instrumental skill and the artistic project as a whole. [+INFO] Subscription
THIRD SECTION – September 14th
World Music

World Music M Ensembles  – no age limit – one round only  

Category M is open to any group, with no age limit, comprised of at least one accordion or one diatonic accordion (of any model), a garmoshka or a bandoneon or digital accordion, that should have the main role in the ensemble. Groups may contain more than one free reed instrument or with only free reed instruments (like the ones mentioned above).

Entrants must present a programme of their choice with a maximum length of 20 minutes, including arrangements and creative reworkings of pieces from the world music, ethno jazz, ethnic, folk and traditional repertoires.

Original compositions generically inspired by ethnic music are also accepted. Apart from the quality of the performance, the jury will also consider the artistic quality of the group. [+INFO]

World Music N  Soloists  – no age limit – one round only

Category N is open to soloists with no age limit, who use an accordion, a diatonic accordion (of any model), a garmoshka, a bandoneon or a digital accordion,Competitors must present a programme of their choice of maximum duration of 15 minutes, including arrangements and creative elaborations of pieces from the world music, ethno jazz, ethnic, folk and traditional repertoires.

Original compositions generically inspired by ethnic music are also accepted. [+INFO]
