A dialogue in music under the sign of air instruments and a lyricism with Mediterranean aromas. Protagonists together with the Corsican voices of the A Filetta choir of the successful project “Mistico Mediterraneo” and of the album of the same name recently released by ECM, Paolo Fresu and Daniele Di Bonaventura find themselves here in the more restricted dimension of the duo. A meeting, the one between the Sardinian trumpeter and the bandoneonist from the Marches, now well established through many concerts, including the one in a special version dedicated to Corto Maltese, the famous cartoon character created by the great Hugo Pratt, which was so successful a few years ago at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice (with the help of a photographic exhibition projected in real time by Pino Ninfa). A concert of great effect that thrives on poetry, intimacy and those little things capable of expressing the colors of the contemporary musical universe. Ecumenically attracted by ethnic, classical and electronic music, the two jazz musicians became the protagonists, in 2011, of an interesting contamination project, supported by the famous Corsican vocal ensemble A Filetta. The result of this successful and fascinating musical journey, which touches ancestral strings, is the album “Mistico Mediterraneo”, published by the prestigious German label Ecm. This duo is a sort of poetic extraction of the magical interplay of that mother project and which has been characterizing their increasingly frequent meetings for some time now which have now become an original and autonomous project. This led them to record – just as a duo – new musical material, released, again for the noble Ecm productions, in the spring of 2015.
