Rea & Biondini, magic jazz at the Astra

A concert of extraordinary depth, a day full of sounds, emotions and colors in which the PIF, the International Accordion Prize, is immersed in the fullness of its contents. Thursday evening is characterized by the performance of two big names in the music scene, especially jazz: at 9.30 pm on the stage of the Astra theater a champion of the piano like Danilo Rea and a top accordionist like Luciano Biondini go up.

Two artists who have already collaborated in the past and who meet here for a performance that will have the Italian character of the refined improvisations of the soloists as a central element. “Imperfect jazz player”, the Roman Rea defined himself in the autobiography published by Rai Eri in 2018, where he traces a life of melody and improvisation, discipline and madness, commitment, passion and contamination that have projected him beyond all genre limits, marking the rhythms of existence and art.

A prodigious palmares, in which the Golden Lion, the Vittorio De Sica Prize, the Honorary Second Level Academic Diploma in new technologies of art and the citation, among the very few Italians, in the prestigious “The Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz “. The Spoleto Luciano Biondini in Castelfidardo is closely linked: the PIF was one of the springboards for a brilliant career that evolved from the classical context on the streets of jazz, connoting the figure of an accordionist who knows how to fit into heterogeneous musical contexts with excellent technique and intensity. Tickets at a cost of € 20 are in advance at the Pro Loco and online at “A brilliant stroke by the artistic director Ruggieri and the city councilor, able to embellish this edition with the resumption of Étv Marche, the direct and the call of illustrious guests”, proudly emphasizes the mayor Roberto Ascani.

But today the auditions also begin with the classic category. «The PIF comes from a distant history, which rests on a consolidated structure, but this time we started from scratch, facing the pitfalls of streaming – explains the director Renzo Ruggieri -. We could not and did not want to stop, so we are among the first to adopt an innovative formula. We have identified the critical issues and found solutions regarding stable band signal, video quality, certainty of live execution and compatibility of time zones: the participation of 162 members from 36 countries and 45 jurors from unprecedented nations such as India, South Africa, Colombia as well as Russia and the largest schools that have confirmed their presence, fills us with satisfaction. We did multiple technical tests and a selection of the finalists, who now perform remotely or in presence at the Astra set up as a TV set “.

From 2.30 pm, on the website and on the social channels of the PIF, it will therefore also be possible to follow the live broadcast of the hearings: a global dimension that does not neglect the events on site. At the civic Soprani music school from 4 to 7 pm free double bass lessons with maestro Nico Pallotta for under 18 (reservations at 0717823305). In the Auditorium San Francesco and in the conference room, the exhibitions of Aurelio Alabardi, Giorgio Toccaceli and Farfisa are open. In Piazza della Repubblica, a large screen to follow the streaming and archive videos, live music at Bar La Centrale with Sean Conero and at Pub ‘O Brian with Uncle Peco’s friends.
