Gonçalo Pescada was born in 1979 in Faro (Portugal). He began his musical studies in the Algarve and, later, continued his studies in Lisbon (Matono Musical Institute), Castelo Branco (Applied Arts Superior School), France (Centre National et International de Musique et Accordéon) and Évora University. Among others, he won 1st Prize in the National Accordion Competition (Alcobaça, 1995) and 1st Prize in the “Citá di Montese” International Competition (Italy, 2004). After achieving the 1st Prize in the Estoril Interpreters Competition (Portugal, 2006), his career took an international turn, leading him to recitals in Spain, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Bulgaria. He has performed as soloist with several Orchestras and was invited to participate in Festivals of enormous prestige. Gonçalo Pescada recorded for radios and televisions. His discography includes the CD’s Intuition (solo), Encontros (chamber music with piano), Astor Piazzolla (soloist with orchestra) and Symbiosis (chamber music with violin). In 2014, he concluded his PHD in Music and Musicology at Évora University under the guidance of the Composer, Maestro and Professor Sir Christopher Bochmann. Nowadays he teaches in several Conservatories in Algarve and he is the Professor for the Higher Course in Accordion Performance at Music Department – Évora University. Since 2014, Gonçalo Pescada is the Portuguese delegate and jury member of the most prominent international accordion competition “Trophée Mondial de l’Accordéon” (Confédération Mondiale de l’Accordéon).
