IV edition from 24th to 26th January with the artistic direction of Simone Zanchini

Small is beautiful. The Jazz Accordion Festival returns to a different time frame compared to the previous three editions but with unchanged quality in content. The review born from a rib of the International Accordion Prize based on the intuition of the culture department to carve out a space dedicated to jazz vibrations, continues its growth path by grafting itself this year into the calendar of the third week of January with a program of substance that artistic director Zanchini does not hesitate to define “one of a kind”. Three different evenings with free admission, with different artists who come from different but equally expressive and high-level jazz worlds. “JAF is a young and innovative festival, to which we are imparting a precise identity without granting discounts on artistic quality, maintaining the intimate and spontaneous dimension of the jazz club and promoting the after hour, the jam sessions with increasing strength and conviction. at the end of the concert they can unite and make musicians and spectators communicate in an extemporaneous way, experiencing an atmosphere of celebration and sharing ”, explains maestro Simone Zanchini.

“It will be three days of great jazz music that start 2020 on the right foot, a year full of important innovations related to the bellows instrument, from the” Wow on bike “to the world trophy for diatonic accordion, from the 45th edition of the PIF passing finally through the lens of Unesco ”, stresses the commissioner Ruben Cittadini.

The opening is entrusted to the “Marchetti duo” composed by accordionist Natalino Marchetti and saxophonist Simone Alessandrini, on stage on Friday 24th January at 22.00 at “La Centrale”, a venue in Piazza Leopardi in the historic center which has recently reopened and is highly dynamic. “A project that works, a consolidated duo that plays original music, a transversal repertoire from the stylistic point of view without prejudice that Marchetti is characterized by the typical language of a swinging jazz with a modern phrasing, which constitutes the figure of our Jaf”, he says Zanchini.

The flagship concert is that of Saturday – On Stage Club via Soprani, 22.00 – with a big internationally renowned, a pure improviser such as the Sardinian Antonello Salis, a class from 1950 with energy and an inexhaustible creative vein: “Bring back to distance of time Salis in Castelfidardo is a courageous and stimulating operation for the entire accordion environment: a star who gives prestige to the festival by confirming its lineage, a total musician who uses the instrument in the true sense of the word … to create music ” .

On Sunday – 18.30, On Stage club – the tradition of offering the JAF stage to the Italian artist who stood out in the Jazz category at the International Accordion Prize last September is maintained. Antonino De Luca, in version quartet with Leonardo Rosselli (sax), Luca Pecchia (guitar) and Emanuele Di Teodoro (bass), is a “guarantee of class, style and skill, distinguishing itself in turn for the link with the be bop language, paying tribute to a master like Frank Marocco, who for us jazz musicians is a sort of putative father “.
